Also, the ordering of faces can change, so that what was once your correct attachment to Face1 now points at a different actual face on the object.īesides the topological naming project, this is also being addressed in 0.17 by allowing for things like datum planes, which can parametrically defined. filleting one of its edges, will break that dependency. If you have a cube, say, with faces Face1 through Face6, and you attach a sketch to a face, any operation which causes that face to change, e.g. There's a Google Summer of Code project open for this: and you can also find a lot of information by searching for "topological naming".Įssentially, when you make a sketch depend on a topological name, it's a very brittle dependency. ![]() Okay, it's free but if you're going to put this much effort into it, why don't you try to make something that is actually easy to use? Designing is complicated enough without having to make it 50 times harder with this program. What you're describing is called the topological naming problem. They are just badly written with some points being the actual opposite of what you need to do. The tutorials are also very poor, I follow them to the letter and they don't produce the right results. Was it written by the same people who made GIMP? I ask that because I find that to be the worst software ever written, for it being so over-complicated. There are many other things I've already got sick of and I've only been at it a couple of days. It's just pure trial and error to adjust dimensions until it does something. Then, after doing some more parts, I obviously find I want to change the length of something, but instead of being able to select the wall and drag the ends to the desired length, I've got no idea how to do it. For instance, wanting to build a wall, I draw the line first, then have to extrude it through a different workbench. Just to do the simplest things, it's so convoluted. First off, I am new to this so trying to find my way round it, but I can't believe how user-unfriendly it is. ![]()
